Yannick Mayaud

Yannick Mayaud is a prize-winning conductor with a particular interest in new composition and reaching new audiences. He has premiered several works, including as part of his recent participation in the 2024 Lucerne Festival Academy’s Contemporary-Conducting Program. He founded and directs Orchestra in the Shape of a Pear: a flexible Birmingham-based ensemble specializing in new music and the repertoire of the late twentieth century, using innovative concert formats and workshops to increase access to this repertoire. Mayaud studied conducting with Daniele Rosina, Edwin Roxburgh and Denise Ham, winning the Michael Beech Conducting Award during his studies, and was selected to participate in master classes with Martyn Brabbins, Kazuki Yamada and Timothy Redmond, among others. He is in demand across Europe, having conducted the Dartington Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Anima in concert and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Paris Mozart Orchestra in master classes.
