Italian composer Pierluigi Billone, born in 1960, lives in Vienna. He studied with Salvatore Sciarrino and Helmut Lachenmann. In his music, Pierluigi Billone tirelessly explores new instrumental and vocal techniques that enable him to venture into hitherto undiscovered sound worlds. At the same time, a tremendous force unfolds in his works. Pierluigi Billone has been awarded multiple prizes, among them the Ernst von Siemens composition prize. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Musikhochschule Frankfurt, and is frequently invited to teach composition seminars and hold lectures around the world. Several radio broadcasts with renowned ensembles have made his music known outside Europe.
