Lukas Schädler was born near Lake Constance in 1994, before his family moved to Dresden. He studied German Philology and Philosophy at the University of Tübingen and Dramaturgy at the Academy for Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg. While still at school, he acted in several productions of Bürgerbühne Dresden, directed by Miriam Tscholl and others. Following this, he completed a Voluntary Social Year at DNT Weimar and was an intern for Michael von zur Mühlen’s production of “die nibelungen”. In Tübingen, he organised readings and poetry slams. His work is dedicated to connecting highbrow and mainstream culture and to locating the regional in the global. Since August 2019, he has been working as a dramaturg at Neue Bühne Senftenberg in the former heavy industry region of Lausitz. There he is investigating whether the process of drifting apart between urban and rural areas is also taking place in the theatres, and what could be an artistic way of accompanying the amputation of the identity-establishing brown coal.
