Giovanni Sala
Following competition successes, the lyric tenor Giovanni Sala (*1992) was able to appear in the role of Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff in a performance in Ravenna conducted by Riccardo Muti in the 2014/15 season. Since then Sala has appeared at many major opera houses, including the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, La Scala in Milan, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and the Vienna State Opera. His repertoire includes roles such as Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth and Nicias in the rarely performed opera Thaïs by Jules Massenet, but also the central roles of the subject such as Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata and Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème. Giovanni Sala was also heard as Alfredo at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in February 2022; in the 2022/23 season he will be a guest there again with the role of Don Ottavio. The Italian singer has already collaborated with John Eliot Gardiner on several occasions, singing the tenor part in performances of Beethoven's Missa solemnis and Haydn's oratorio The Creation.
