Swoosh Lieu

Currently, the feminist performance collective SWOOSH LIEU consists of Johanna Castell (*1985), Katharina Kellermann (*1983) and Rosa Wernecke (*1986). They all studied at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen and have been creating projects in the fields of performance and installation in cooperation with other artists since 2009. In 2012, they developed the dance performance “Everything but Solo” during the project ensemble PET 10 (Tanzlabor_21 / Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main). In the autumn of 2013, the performance series “Implantieren auf Naxos” invited them to develop the performative installation “The Factory – Eine Besetzungsprobe” specifically for the venue Naxoshalle in Frankfurt. This work was invited to Tanzplattform Deutschland in 2014. Under the working title of “What is the Plural of Crisis? – ein performativer Krisenbericht in verteilten Rollen”, Swoosh Lieu have been working on a series of works addressing the central issues of the concept of crisis since early 2016. From various perspectives and with a feminist approach, they are exploring the consequences of the so-called financial crisis on various protagonists, and assess what the function of the theatre, its formats and techniques could be in these times of crisis. The trilogy builds on earlier works with regards to topics and form, continuing the collective’s investigation of what is political about current theatre, or how the theatre’s techniques and devices can be updated for political expression.
