Herbert Achternbusch

Author, painter, director and film-maker Herbert Achternbusch was invited to the Stückemarkt in 1979 with “Susn” and in 1980 with “Gust”. After studying painting at the Munich Art Academy, he took up various casual jobs before turning to writing in the mid-1960s. Herbert Achternbusch has been awarded the Mülheim Dramatists’ Prize twice, as well as the Ludwig Thoma Medal from the City of Munich, the Petrarca Prize (which he refused), the Goethe Institute’s Dramatists’ Prize and various prestigious awards for his body of film work.
