Munich-based composer Atac Sezer, who was born in 1979 in Istanbul, first studied the piano, the Ney (a traditional Turkish flute), and musicology in his home country. Following this, he studied composition in Kassel, in Berlin with Dieter Schnebel and took a master class with Matthias Pintscher in Munich. Atac Sezer’s compositions involve electronic music, microtonality and influences of Turkish and Arab sound systems (Maquamlar). In his works, Sezer experiments with new types of playing techniques and often combines Western and Eastern instruments. He has participated in the documenta 2007 as well as musica viva in Munich, the MusikTriennale Köln, the Heidelberger Frühling and the Young Euro Classic in Berlin.
