Stephan Stock

Stephan Stock was born in Rheinfelden in 1985. He studied in Bern and Zurich and graduated with a Master of Arts-degree from the Zurich University of the Arts. Stock is a co-founder of the multiple award-winning theatre company vorschlag:hammer who regularly work at Ballhaus Ost in Berlin, Roxy in Basel and Ringlokschuppen in Mülheim an der Ruhr. This group has been continuously funded through the “Spitzenförderung”-programme, the State of North Rhein-Westphalia’s highest level of funding. The company received awards at the 100 Grad Festival in Berlin, at Körber Studio für Junge Regie in Hamburg and at the Best OFF Festival in Hanover. Furthermore, they completed two two-year residencies at Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf and Schlosstheater Moers in the framework of the Doppelpass-Fund of the German Federal Cultural Foundation. Stephan Stock is also a co-founder of the theatre collective yuri500, which won the audience award at the Treibstoff Festival in Basel, and he co-founded the paradox collective neue Dringlichkeit which actively realises political theatre and actions in Zurich. 

In the 2014 edition of Freischwimmerfestival, which had the motto of “Intimate”, he represented Gessnerallee Zurich with the solo “Theater der Peinlichkeit”. Since then, Stephan Stock has been producing shows under this label, mainly at Gessnerallee and at Rote Fabrik; the titles include “Stephan Stock spielt Ulysass”, “The Trap” and “Mobbing Clowns”. Since August 2020, he has been co-director of Theater HORA in Zurich, the best-known inclusive theatre in Switzerland. Furthermore, he is a member of the network cobratheater.cobra.
