
Jochen Carls is from Aachen, where he was born in 1976. In addition to a musical background in classical church music and rock music, he studied contrabass with Jürgen Tomasso, Frithjof-Martin Grabner and Janne Saksala. From 2003 to 2006, Jochen Carls was a member of the orchestra at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. Jochen Carl’s interests lie in contemporary music theatre as well as collaborating with chamber music ensembles. He regularly plays with soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin and the Istanbul-based Hezarfen ensemble. Together with drummer Robyn Schulkowsky and composer Ruth Wiesenfeld, Jochen Carls founded HOERRAUM in 2012, an experimental forum for sound in Berlin.
