Cevdet Erek
Cevdet Erek, who was born in 1974 in Istanbul, studied architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul as well as sound engineering and sound design at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Music at Istanbul’s Teknik Üniversitesi, where he also did his PhD. In his works, Cevdet Erek records the characteristics of the location in question. Videos, LEDs, rhythmic sounds and images are all elements in his projects, which are often about altered perception and the feelings the atmosphere of the space conjures. He has held monographic exhibitions in such locations as Istanbul, Basel and Gothenborg. He has participated in group exhibitions in San Francisco, London, Kuwait City and Beirut. In 2012, he showed work at the dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel. Erek is also a percussionist in Istanbul-based experimental rock band Nekropsi.
