Participant International Forum 2019
Azadeh Ganjeh – director, playwright and dramaturg – was born in Tehran in 1983. Since 2006, she has produced independent productions out of Iran’s institutionalized theatre system. After a BA in Civil Engineering, she earned an MA degree in Theatre Directing from Tehran University of Art. In 2009, she was distinguished as the genius MFA student in art universities. Performing site-specific and immersive theatre in public spaces answers her interest in theatre for democracy and as a platform for dialogue. “Always passes by you…” - an interactive theatre piece on civil rights - brought her the best directing prize. Azadeh Ganjeh was a participant in the Watch & Talk programme of Festival Belluard Bollwerk International 2015. She got her PhD in Philosophy from the University of Bern in 2017. She moved back to Iran and is now an assistant professor at the Faculty of Music and Performing of the University of Tehran. She has taught workshops on environmental theatre, interactive theatre, performance art and theories and theatre-therapy for immigrant children. Her immersive play “Blinded” was premiered at Territori – Festival di teatro in spazi urbani in Bellinzona in 2017.
