Philipp Ruch

Philipp Ruch is the Artistic Director of the Center for Political Beauty (Zentrum für politische Schönheit, ZPS). ZPS is among the most exciting think tanks of political interventional art worldwide: In 2010, the center became known internationally for its memorial project “The Pillar of Shame” (for the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica). In 2012, the ZPS offered an award of 25,000 Euros for the capture of 38 arms dealers who were intended to be jailed by society as a whole. In 2014, the “Federal Children’s Transport-Aid Program” was the first theatre project ever to reach the office of the Federal Chancellor within 48 hours. Philipp Ruch studied Political Philosophy and obtained a PhD with a thesis on “Honor and Revenge: The History of Emotion of an Ancient Law”, supervised by Professors Herfried Münkler and Hartmut Böhme. He has developed exhibitions and productions for the 7th Berlin Biennale, NGKB, ZKM, Steirischer Herbst, th e 6th Berlin Kunstsalon and the German Video Award 2012.
