Hans Dieter Heimendahl

Dr Hans Dieter Heimendahl is Programme Director of Deutschlandfunk Kultur. He was born in Bremen in 1965. From 1984 to 1995, he studied German language and literature and philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin and at Cornell University in New York. In 1995, he obtained a doctorate with a dissertation on Thomas Mann. Hans Dieter Heimendahl worked as a freelance journalist for various newspapers and broadcasting stations before completing a traineeship with Sender Freies Berlin from 1996 to 1998. In the years 1999 to 2001, he worked as editor and moderator for “Journal am Morgen” at Radio Bremen 2. Between 2001 and 2012, he was Deputy Programme Director of Radio Bremen and from 2007 to 2012, he was also Programme Manager of Nordwestradio. Since April 2012, Hans Dieter Heimendahl has been the director of the main department for culture at Deutschlandradio Kultur in Berlin.
