Author, film-maker and translator Thomas Brasch was invited to the Stückemarkt in 1979 with his play “Lieber Georg” (Dear George). His studies in journalism in Potsdam and dramaturgy in Leipzig both ended in his expulsion for political reasons. In 1976, Thomas Brasch relocated to the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1983, he officially renounced his German citizenship. Besides many other prizes, he received the Lessing Prize of the City of Hamburg, the Ernst Reuter Prize, the Villa Massimo grant and the Kleist Prize.
