Nikolai Khalezin

The Belarusian dramatist, actor and journalist Nikolai Khalezin was invited to the Stückemarkt in 2006 with the play “Ja prishel – The Arrival” (published title: “Here I am”). The play received numerous awards, among others, the Special Jury Prize during the playwriting competition “Eurasien 2004” in Ekaterinenburg as well as four prizes during the Moscow drama contest “Characters”. In 1990, he founded the gallery “Vita Nova” and as an artist, he took part in prestigious international exhibitions. In March 2005, together with his wife, he founded and became artistic director of the Belarus Free Theatre in Minsk, one of the most committed projects by artists against state suppression.
