Kohei Nawa is a sculptor, teacher and a professor of Art and Design Studies at Kyoto University of the Arts. Constantly exploring new frontiers and potentialities in visual art, he works with beads, prisms, polyurethane foam, silicone oil and other contemporary materials.
Nawa is also the director of Sandwich Inc., a creative platform that he established in Kyoto in 2009 for multidisciplinary creative work involving architects, photographers, designers, artists and other creators.
In 2011 he presented a solo exhibition, Kohei Nawa – SYNTHESIS, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. In 2017 he took part in the exhibition Japanorama, Nouveau regard sur la création contemporaine at the Centre Pompidou-Metz. His monumental sculpture Throne was exhibited at the Louvre Pyramid in Paris, from July 2018 to February 2019, as one of the highlights of the show.
In collaboration with Damien Jalet, he created the shows VESSEL, Planet [wanderer], Mirage [transitory] and the film Mist.
