Mask. Dream. Animality. Body politics. Divinity. In his performatives works, Fritz Faust investigates meta-cultural narratives and the indefiniteness between body and world. He gained an MA in Sculpture/Performance from the Royal College of Art in London; previously, he had studied directing at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin. In open spaces, he creates a web of voices and movement as an exploration of physical boundaries, collisions of organic and non-organic materials and, more and more frequently, of non-human animals, especially insects. In 2013, he spent eight remarkable months in Japan, discovering strict form in Nō and silence in Butoh. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe and at ArtEZ University of the Arts. His most defining works include a dance on broken glass (“間”, Deutsches Theater Berlin, 2015), a gorilla (“The Myth of Homo Rudolfensis”, Biennale College Musica, 2014) and a body covered in 1,000 crickets (RCA degree show, 2017).
