Herbert Fritsch

Herbert Fritsch was born in Augsburg in 1951. He trained as an actor at Munich’s Otto-Falckenberg-Schule and worked at various renowned theatres in Germany and abroad. He is one of Frank Castorf’s regular actors and was a member of the Volksbühne’s acting company from the early 1990s to 2007. Since the year 2000, all of his work has been leading to the intermedia art project hamlet_X, which manifests in nearly all media and forms of artistic expression. Within the project, Herbert Fritsch is involved as actor, film and theatre director, author, performer, photographer and illustrator.

Since leaving the Volksbühne, Herbert Fritsch has been directing at numerous German-language theatres: Neues Theater Halle, Theater Oberhausen, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Schauspiel Leipzig, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz (Berlin), Bremer Theater, Thalia Theater (Hamburg), Schauspiel Köln, Residenztheater München, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Opernhaus Zürich.

In 2017, Herbert Fritsch’s “Pfusch (Botch)” at Berlin’s Volksbühne is his seventh production to be presented at the Theatertreffen.
