The cellist comes from an Austro-Hungarian family of musicians and received his training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he studied with Valentin Erben and Róbert Nagy. Master classes with Daniel Barenboim, Steven Isserlis, Heinrich Schiff and Tamás Varga as well as additional conducting and composition studies with Leopold Hager and Iván Eröd provided further important impulses. In 2006 Stephan Koncz became a scholarship holder of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The prize-winner of renowned competitions has performed as a soloist and chamber musician, for example, at the Musikverein Wien and the Konzerthaus Berlin as well as at the Philharmonie Berlin; artistic partnerships connect him with Julian Rachlin, Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Maxim Vengerov, among others. In September 2010 Stephan Koncz, who had previously been a member of the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra for two years, joined the cello section of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
