Sara Dec was born in Bavaria, is trilingual by nature and is a theatre maker and visual artist. Studies in European ethnology, art history and East Slavic philology as well as an aborted goldsmith apprenticeship finally brought her to the theatre, where she works as a director and dramaturg. She doesn’t like to talk about herself and prefers to quote Mely Kiyak: “Only those who wear a medal know that leaving and arriving are a source of inspiration, a medal that life gives you.”
Her artistic work is fuelled by her strong affinity with human communication and action processes and their susceptibility to disruption – and is therefore always created collaboratively. She works closely with Michał Borczuch. Previous works are/were shown at HochX Theatre and Live Art, Teatr im. Aleksandra Fredry in Gniezno (Poland) and at the Residenztheater in Munich. She has also worked as a community interpreter and has been the executive assistant to the director at the Berliner Festspiele Theatertreffen since 2023.
