Milena Michalek

Milena Michalek was born in Vienna in 1993 and works as a theatre director. In 2014, she founded the collective YZMA and developed a method of writing based on improvisation, transcription and montage. Collective authorship, discursive forms of theatre and the fusion of mise-en-scène and text production are at the core of her work. With YZMA, she developed six plays at Theater Drachengasse, Kosmos Theater in Vienna and Landestheater Niederösterreich. In 2017, she received the START-scholarship from the Federal Chancellery of Austria. The production “MÜTTER” at Kosmos Theater in Vienna (2018) was shortlisted at the Theatertreffen’s Stückemarkt. In the same year, she created “DIBBUK” at Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom. In 2019 she graduated from Vienna University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. Her most recent work “SCHWIERIGES THEMA” premiered at Kosmos Theater in February 2020.
