Oliver Schneller

Born in Cologne in 1966, composer and saxophonist Oliver Schneller spent his childhood in Sudan, Belgium and the Philippines. He studied composition at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He developed and expanded the Computer Music Studio at City University of New York and did his PhD in composition at Columbia University in New York, where he was assistant to Tristan Murail. In Berlin, Oliver Schneller curated the Tracing Migrations festival, which featured contemporary music by young Arab composers, in 2013 he was co-curator for MaerzMusik. He was a fellow at the Villa Massimo in Rome and in 2010 he was the recipient of a Composers Award from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Today, Oliver Schneller – whose works are performed by renowned ensembles and orchestras – is primarily interested in intercultural and interdisciplinary music projects. He is professor for composition at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. He lives in Berlin.
