
Ilya Permiakov is a Russian director, screenwriter and video artist. Permiakov, who was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2003 for a thesis on the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and the poetry of Paul Celan and Osip Mandelstam, has worked on Ilya Khrzhanovsky’s cycle of films ‘DAU’ in a variety of positions since 2012. As co-director he was responsible for the narrative and editing concepts for the two series ‘DAU. REGENERATION’ and ‘DAU.DEGENERATION’ and for the film ‘DAU. NEW MAN’. He also ran the DAU Academic Research Project, which resulted in a number of academic conferences in which overarching thematic topics of the film cycle could be investigated and intensified. Between 2004 and 2008, before his long-standing collaboration with Khrzhanovsky, Permiakov was the curator of an international festival of audio-visual arts entitled ‘Videologia’ and also produced his own video art own works that were exhibited at venues including the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and Tate Modern in London.
