Gal Kirn

Gal Kirn studied for his Diploma at the University in Ljubljana until 2005, and then went on to do his PhD at the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia). He was awarded the grade summa cum laude for his thesis “Conceptualising Politics and Reproduction in the Work of Louis Althusser: Case of Socialist Yugoslavia”. During the following years, he worked, among other places, at the Jan van Eyck Academie, Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry (“Parallax View of Memory Politics in the Post-Yugoslav Context”), at the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation in Berlin, and in Stuttgart, where he received a fellowship at the Akademie Schloss Solitude for the project “Thinking the Monument to Sub/Urban Riots” (together with Niloufar Tajeri). He is currently a research Fellow at TU Dresden (Institute of Slavonic Studies), where he is finishing his manuscript on “The Partisan Counter Archive” and translating his book on socialist Yugoslavia (forthcoming at Pluto Press).
