Ruth Ur

Ruth Ur leads on the British Council’s European partnerships and is currently based in Berlin. She joined the British Council in Berlin in 1997 for one year as a clerk when the British Council was still located on Hardenbergstraße. Since then Ruth Ur has led some of the British Council’s biggest arts partnership initiatives including the European Commission funded “My City” programme and the “Arab Spring Art and Social Change” research with the University of York. She was Exhibitions Officer in the British Council’s Visual Arts Department (1999–2002), curator of the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2002 and organised numerous exhibitions all over the world. She has had postings as Director Arts to Turkey (2008–2010) and Israel (2003–2006). She has worked in North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa and across Europe and has a special interest in the relationship of culture and development. Ruth Ur is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and has a Masters from the Courtauld Institute in Twentieth Century German Art.
