British bass-baritone Tristan Hambleton studied at St John’s College Cambridge, Heidelberg Universität and the Royal Academy of Music London. He is an Equilibrium Young Artist for the 2023/24 season.
Recent projects include “Messiah” with Marc Minkowski, Envy and High Priest in Purcells “The Indian Queen” with Emmanuel Haïm and Le Concert d'Astree at Operá de Lille, Théâtre de Caen, De Vlaamse Opera and Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg; a Mozart Residency at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Marchese d’Obigny in Verdis “La Traviata” for Opéra de Bordeaux and Madman/Witness 3 in “Lessons in Love and Violence” with George Benjamin and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Amongst his plans are Father Truelove in Stravinskys “The Rake’s Progress” with Barbara Hannigan and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Valens in “Theodora” with Collegium Musicum Bergen and “Messiah” with the English Chamber Orchestra, both under the baton of Nicholas Kraemer.
Previous engagements include Karl in David Bruce “Nothing” for Glyndebourne, Tom in “Un Ballo in Maschera” for Welsh National Opera, Marullo in Verdis “Rigoletto”, Angelotti in “Tosca” and Peter Quince in Brittens “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for Nevill Holt Opera as well as Hermann Ortel in ”Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” in concert with the Hallé Orchestra / Sir Mark Elder. His opera repertoire includes Claudio in “Agrippina”, the title role in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte”, Masetto in “Don Giovanni”, Alidoro in “La Cenerentola”, Balthazar in “La Favorite” and Bottom in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
On the concert platform Tristan has sung Mozart Requiem with the Hallé, Haydn “Theresienmesse” and Elgar “The Apostles” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach cantatas with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, “Messiah” with the Hanover Band, Solomon with the London Mozart Players and Purcell “Odes and Welcome Songs” with Le Banquet Céleste and Damien Guillon.
As a recitalist he has performed Schubert’s “Schwanengesang” at the Oxford Lieder Festival, toured Sweden with Schubert ”Winterreise”, Purcell “Orpheus Britannicus” at Operá de Lille and has appeared as a guest recitalist at Blackwater Valley, Yorke Trust and Musique Cordiale.
