Nadir Sönmez studied Theatre at Université de Paris III – Sorbonne Nouvelle. He had his acting training at Conservatoire du 7e Erik Satie and his MA in Acting at Kadir Has Üniversitesi in Istanbul. In his digital project “Murder of the Male”, shared with the audience on WhatsApp, he made a social autopsy of gay porn stars’ suicides in the US (Istanbul Fringe Festival, 2020). His play “Ama”, a conversation piece exploring sexual politics of young Turkish artists, was invited to Dresden’s Fast Forward – European Festival for Young Stage Directors (2021). Adapted from the same play, his first feature film “Ama” was released on MUBI Türkiye (2022). He staged a reading of “Les Fils des Hétérosexuels”, his first play in the French language, discussing the representations of race in gay porn (Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, 2021). In his solo project “Diyarbakır.Tourism.Romantism.Activism”, he narrates Kurdish LGBTIQ+ activism in Diyarbakır through autobiographical performance, essay film and documentary theatre (CultureCIVIC, 2022).
