Karim Haddad

Composer Karim Haddad, who was born in 1962 in Beirut, studied the clarinet at the National Conservatory as well as philosophy and literature at the American University in his hometown. From 1982 onwards, he studied musicology at the Sorbonne in Paris and music theory and composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse. He attended master classes with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Klaus Huber, Emmanuel Nunes and Brian Ferneyhough at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. Since the 1990s, Karim Haddad has been active at IRCAM, developing new programmes and working today as a technical advisor at the institute and as a lecturer at the Conservatory in Paris. His short opera “Seven Attempted Escapes from Silence” based on a libretto by Jonathan Safran Foer premiered at the Staatsoper Berlin in 2005.
