Performer
Multi-disciplinary performance artist – Glasgow, Scotland
Participant International Forum 2020/2021/2022
I make performances relating to my subject position as a queer artist of color, but also speaking to the schism and schizophrenic displacement of modern life. I want to engage audiences in thinking about the social and political dimensions of culture, while telling personal narratives through my artwork. My production “Magic Theatre – [scenes from the unconscious]” explores questions of identity, race/sexuality/diaspora, in seeking out dynamic themes of the unconscious mind in the modern world. My work is a multi-sensory, non-linear exploration of unconscious dream states that reflects the need in our present performance culture to offer alternative voices from the queer/Eastern mysticism tradition and to investigate diverse subjectivities. Working internationally, I have received numerous accolades for my work exhibited or performed at major arts institutions such as the New Museum, The Kitchen NYC, the Centre for Contemporary Arts Glasgow and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. My recent work has been performed at Dance Base Edinburgh, Tramway and CCA Glasgow.
