The story is an old one, the form is surprisingly new: In Belgian theatre collective FC Bergman’s adaptation of the fable, Reynard the Fox remains a phantom for quite some time. The wolf is the protagonist, fighting a lost battle against the fox, who operates from the offstage-forest, a mixture of guerilla fighter and Robin Hood. Disturbing images are created, between a live soundtrack and a live film, addressing the boundaries between nature and culture, between civic rules and sovereign intelligence. The young collective, whose name combines the idea of a football club with the concept of auteur filmmakers, are performing at Foreign Affairs for the second time. Again they range between film and theatre, this time joining forces with various grand masters of the Belgian theatre scene: Flemish film star and director Josse de Pauw is once again working as a playwright for “Van den vos” and Viviane de Muynck and Dirk Roofthooft’s acting carries the performance. The tale finds reflection in the show’s spheric music, a result of the encounter between young pop musician Liesa Van der Aa and the Berlin Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop.
