The collective Field Narratives invites you to an intimate gathering exploring the conditions under which memories – across generations and landscapes – are shared and preserved.

As part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG by Rirkrit Tiravanija, the Gropius Bau invites you to a monthly series of Long Evenings. In addition to the gathering, there will be a performative reading by manuel arturo abreu, a screening of a film by Tiravanija, a performance by John Bock and a DJ set by malengo on the same evening.

Members of Field Narratives share excerpts of poems, creative writing and video works. They intend to spark reflections on untold stories from past generations, the conditions required to (re)tell them and the landscapes that form them. Participants are invited to engage in discussions inspired by these works, exploring how memory shapes both personal and collective histories.

Field Narratives is an artistic research platform for rural biographies, transgenerational and cross-continental storytelling. It consists of Sascia Bailer, Andreas Doepke, hn. lyonga and Lene Markusen.

Sascia Bailer is a researcher, writer and curator working at the intersection of care, gender and socially engaged art. Her book Caring Infrastructures: Transforming the Arts Through Feminist Curating (2024) is based on her time as Artistic Director of M.1 at the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung.

Andreas Doepke is a researcher, project manager and writer based in Berlin. With degrees in political science and geography, his interests revolve around concepts of nature, social justice and the role of biographical research in contemporary artistic practice.

hn. lyonga is a Black, Queer, interdisciplinary artist, poet and curator. His work focuses on writing and storytelling as a vital way of neighbouring and migrational inquiries. hn. lyonga was the Gropius Bau’s Neighbour in Residence 2023 and is currently the co-coordinator of BARAZANI.berlin – Forum Kolonialismus und Widerstand.

Lene Markusen is a visual artist and filmmaker. Her work weighs in on historical discontinuities and spatial disparities, activating the catalytic and micro-utopian moments of performance and storytelling. She received the Villa Romana Prize in 2021.
