This work on Wolfgang Rihm’s Jagden und Formen [2008 version] brings together two companies of magnificent soloists: Ensemble Modern and Sasha Waltz & Guests. The music choreography project ultimately succeeds in uniting new music with contemporary dance in a highly individual way and in providing a visible and tangible demonstration of the composer’s great affinity with dance. After Wolfgang Rihm and Sasha Waltz had met, his score of Jagden und Formen – which has been in a state of constant evolution since the mid 1990s – was developed further into the current »2008 version«. This became the basis for an intense dialogue between the two ensembles, which will be continued in the future. Rihm’s highly energetic and complex music, which itself appears to take on different bodily forms and moods and to describe essential physical states, resonates with the choreographic interaction of dancers and musicians.
»A virtuoso project from Wolfgang Rihm and Sasha Waltz in Frankfurt: Jagden und Formen is without doubt one of the glittering moments when new music and contemporary dance come together congenially.«
