Who would not recall the sound of Slovenian Slavko Avsenik and his ‘Original Oberkrainer’? About half a century later, Global.Kryner present world hits and jazz standards in a modernised ‘Oberkryner’ style. The Austrian sextet around singer Sabine Stieger interprets songs like “Over the Rainbow” or “Like A Virgin” as well as pieces by Cole Porter, the Beatles and Tina Turner – an “Alpine swing” with “ingenious, quick-paced arrangements for accordion, clarinet, trumpet, guitar and trombone” (Der Spiegel). With their current hit “Y Asi” the band will represent their country at the European Song Contest 2005 in Kiev. Global.Kyrner reinvent music drawing from the plentiful resources available and effortlessly build bridges between the jazz club, the beer tent and the pop stage, all for the sheer pleasure of indulging in sound.
