Thinking Together – Voice Workshop
Thinking Together
“Chorus in cc” is a workshop that over two sessions of 4 hours prepares the participants to perform in a new vocal piece with the same name. No singing experience is required. The workshop is open to everybody interested in performing with extended voice and polyrhythms.
Myriam Van Imschoot: “The point of departure is a high frequency hiss that sounds like the noise crickets or cicadas make on a hot summer day, but with a bit of imagination it evokes a whole range of other sounds too, like gas leaks, fire crackling, etc. The stridulating sound is made by pulsating airflow through a narrowed mouth cavity, with the further manipulation of body and arm movements. Together with my collaborators, with whom I developed this practice of ‘cricketing’ over the years, I conduct the workshop as a step-by-step incursion into a group score that enables us to create a dense sound texture with shifting rhythms inside. It is a physically engaging experience, quite a trip. Minimal drone en masse.”
The workshop includes a warm-up adapted to extended vocal technique, the exploration of the sound material and learning/practicing a score that makes use of acoustic and amplified space conditions.
