Isabelle Demers

Her playing inspires with its “breathtaking virtuosity” and “unfailing technique”, was the verdict of the Fédération Québécoise des Amis de l'Orgue on Isabelle Demers. The Canadian performs not only in her home country and the USA, but also in Australia, China and Europe. Here, for example, she has been a guest in London at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, and has also played in the cathedrals of Cologne and Regensburg as well as in the Elbphilharmonie.

Isabelle Demers comes from Québec and first studied piano at the Montréal Conservatory, adding the organ at the age of 16. The winner of numerous competitions, she continued her education with the help of a scholarship for a year at the École normale de musique de Paris before deciding to focus entirely on the organ and going to New York’s Juilliard School. After completing her Master’s degree, she wrote her doctoral thesis on J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion. Isabelle Demers then taught at Baylor University in Texas; she is currently professor of organ at McGill University in Montréal.
