
Director
Wang Chong is the founder of Théâtre du Rêve Expérimental, a Beijing-based performance group. He is the most internationally commissioned Chinese theatre director, with his works performed in over 20 countries, gaining critical acclaim across the globe. His works include: “The Warfare of Landmine 2.0”, winning 2013 Festival/Tokyo Award; “Lu Xun”, noted by The Beijing News as The Best Chinese Performance of 2016; “Teahouse 2.0”, winning One Drama Award The Best Little Theater Performance of 2017; and “Waiting for Godot”, a live online performance with an audience of 290,000 spectators. Since 2022, he has embraced a global nomad lifestyle.

Wang Chong, born in Beijing in 1982, already staged plays during his studies from 2005 to 2008 at the University of Hawaii and the University of California, Irvine. In 2008, he founded Théâtre du Rêve Expérimental in Beijing as director and artistic director. His productions include the Chinese premieres of “The Arabian Night” by Roland Schimmelpfennig (2007), “Self-Incrimination” by Peter Handke (2009), “Greed” by Sarah Kane (2009), “The Hamlet Machine” by Heiner Müller (2010) and “Central Park West” by Woody Allen (2011). He premiered “Flowers on the Sea” by WANG Chong (Shanghai International Arts Festival 2012), “Ibsen in One Take” by Oda Fiskum (2012), “Kurukulla” by ZHAO Binghao (2013 New York). Chong Wang is currently a fellow of the Asian Cultural Council and is one of the programme directors of the Beijing Fringe Festival.
