While studying musicology at the Sorbonne and conducting research on Italian music collections in several European libraries, Geoffroy Jourdain very early on began conducting vocal ensembles. When still a student, he founded Les Cris de Paris. The group was soon recognised for its adventurous artistic project and for its commitment to contemporary creation.
Geoffroy Jourdain has developed and created works by Silvia Borzelli, Jérôme Combier, Ivan Fedele, Francesco Filidei, Beat Furrer, Hanna Eimermacher, Mauro Lanza, Pierre-Yves Macé, Wolfgang Mitterer, Oscar Strasnoy, Marco Stroppa, Eva Reiter, Francesca Verunelli and others.
He is excited by the repertoire of the 17th century and by ethnomusicology. His aim is not to base the identity of his artistic project around ideas of authenticity and heritage, but to make them part of a movement, with added impetus given by works created by other artists.
Together with artists working in dance, theatre and the visual arts (Oliver Beer, Julie Bérès, Aurélien Bory, François Chaignaud, Clément Cogitore, Thomas Guillaud-Bataille, Benjamin Lazar) and inspired by their wide-ranging ideas on the direct representation of time, Geoffroy Jourdain enjoys inventing new formats for performance, where music is set free of the traditions of the classical concert.
Since 2016, he has been working with the Harmonia Mundi record label.
