Brian Ferneyhough

Composer Brian Ferneyhough was born in 1943 in Coventry, England and studied with Lennox Berkley in London, Ton de Leeuw in Amsterdam and Klaus Huber in Basel. Ferneyhough’s works, which stretch from music theatre to string quartets, are defined by an extremely precise and finely chiselled, highly complex structure. His compositions are performed internationally by leading orchestras, soloists and ensembles and regularly appear on the programmes of international music festivals. Ferneyhough taught at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, in Milan, The Hague and Copenhagen before becoming professor at Stanford University in California in 2000. In 2007 he received the renowned Ernst von Siemens music prize.
