The premiere of the orchestra work Ruf in 1977 made composer Emmanuel Nunes, who was born in 1941 in Lisbon, an international name. Gradually evolving sound processes are characteristic for his work, with generously dimensioned creations that often seem to have evolved organically. The manner in which sounds unfold in space is part of the composition. Nunes takes advantages of the possibilities offered by live electronics and the computer in his work. He has collaborated with the Paris-based Ircam Institute for Electronic Music for many years now. Emanuel Nunes has received multiple awards for his work, and taught composition in Darmstadt, Freiburg, Paris and Harvard University, among other locations.
