Sebastian Blomberg

Sebastian Blomberg was born in Bergisch Gladbach and studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. He then worked as a member of the ensembles at Theater Basel and at Schauspielhaus Wien, before he began performing in 2001 at, amongst other theatres, Deutches Theater, Maxim Gorki Theater and Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, at Thalia Theater Hamburg, Burgtheater Wien and Schauspielhaus Zürich. He worked with directors such as Stefan Bachmann, Dimiter Gotscheff, Karin Beier, Martin Kušej and Nicolas Stemann, amongst others.

Sebastian Blomberg became a member of the ensemble of the Residenztheater in Munich in 2011 and acted there, amongst other productions, in “Trilogie der Sommerfrische” (directed by Herbert Fritsch) adapted from Goldoni and in Dimiter Gotscheff’s production of Heiner Müller’s “Zement”. The production was invited to the 2014 edition of the Berlin Theatertreffen. With his role in Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” (directed by Herbert Fritsch), he was once again a guest at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 2017/2018. Beginning 2020, he has performed in Karin Beier’s production of “Reich des Todes” by Rainald Goetz at Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

Alongside his work in theatres, Sebastian Blomberg has also been in numerous film and television productions. Selected films include “Curveball - Wir machen die Wahrheit” (directed by Johannes Naber), “Zeit der Kannibalen” (directed by Johannes Naber) and “Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer” (directed by Lars Kraume). The latter received the 2016 German Film Prize in the categories of Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay, the 2015 Günter Rohrbach Film Prize as Best Film, the Hessian Film and Cinema Prize as Best Feature Film as well as the audience award at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2015, “Zeit der Kannibalen” received the bronze German Film Prize, amongst other awards.

In 1997, Sebastian Blomberg received the Josef Kainz medal of the city of Vienna as best emerging actor of the year. He was honoured with the Aldolf Grimme Prize in 2008 for his performance in “Guten Morgen, Herr Grothe” (directed by Lars Kraume) and received the 2014 Günther Rohrbach Film Prize for his performance in “Zeit der Kannibalen”.

Sebastian Blomberg already worked with Thorsten Lensing in “Karamasow” (2014) as well as in “Unendlicher Spaß” (2018).
