María Fernanda Giacaman Hasbún is a Chilean with Palestinian origins theatre maker. She studied acting at Universidad Católica de Chile and graduated with a master’s degree in Staging the Arts and Media at the University of Hildesheim on a DAAD scholarship. She works as a director and performer on theatre projects focused on scenic research and the intersection between theory and practice. Her research interests include bodies on stage and the violence to which they are exposed through power structures. As a director, she staged “Kriegsrahmen” in 2021 with the collective what about: fuego. The piece was invited to the 2022–2023 Festival Performing Arts Berlin, Politik im Freien Theater, Körber Studio Junge Regie and Best Off Niedersachsen. In 2023, she directed the production “IM ANFANG WAR DER ZAUN” with what about: fuego, which opened the autumn season at Schauspiel Köln.

In April this year, the collective’s third production will premiere at Ring Theatre Berlin: “TEAR GAS, A Safe Weapon”. María Fernanda Giacaman Hasbún is based in Berlin.
