Klaus Völker

Klaus Völker was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1938. He was the head dramaturg at theatres in Zurich, Basel, Bremen as well as at the Schiller-Theater in Berlin. In 1992, he was appointed professor for theatre history and dramaturgy at Berlin’s Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ersnst Busch”, where he was principal from 1993 to 2005. He has written numerous books and monographs about Bertolt Brecht, Frank Wedekind, Irish theatre, Max Herrmann-Neiße, Alfred Jarry, Boris Vian, Samuel Beckett, Fritz Kortner, Elisabeth Bergner, Hans Lietzau, Bernhard Minetti, Sadie Leviton, Elisabeth Orth/Kristen Dene, Johannes Bobrowski, “Mephistos Landhaus” – Klabund and Gustaf Gründgens in Zeesen, Peter Zadek, Kabarett der Komiker – Berlin 1924-1950. He edited the Collected Works in 10 Volumes (1986-1988) and Letters in 2 Volumes (2012) of Max Herrmann-Neiße. Klaus Völker is a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts and the German Academy of Performing Arts.
