Heloisa Amaral (BRA/NO) has studied piano, historical keyboards and conducting in Freiburg and Oslo. Her interest for experimental music has led to collaborations with composers Helmut Lachenmann, Natasha Barrett, Simon Steen-Andersen, Johannes Kreidler, Alvin Lucier, Phil Niblock, Jan St Werner, Marina Rosenfeld, Joanna Bailie et al. Heloisa performs mainly as soloist and with Duo Hellqvist/Amaral (initiator of projects like “Disobediences in Sound“ or the artistic exchange platform “Impossible Situations), Amaral/Zöllner or Ensemble neoN. In addition to her work as a performer, Heloisa is active as teacher, curator and researcher. In 2012 she started the Ultima Academy at Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, which she programmed until 2015. Currently, she pursues a PhD in artistic research at the Orpheus Institute (BE) and lectures in curatorial practices in music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Heloisa is an advisor of DEFRAGMENTATION – Curating contemporary music, a project of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD), the Donaueschingen Festival, MaerzMusik – Festival for Time Issues.
