Rieke Süßkow

Rieke Süßkow was born in Berlin in 1990. She initially studied theatre, film and media studies in Vienna, then directing at the Theatre Academy in Hamburg. She is co-founder of hallimasch komplex. Her productions have been invited to various German and international festivals including Radikal jung, Heidelberger Stückemarkt and Prager Theaterfestival für Deutsche Sprache. At the Festival for International Alternative Theatre FIAT in Montenegro, she received the award for Best Director. For her production of “Oxytocin, Baby” by Anna Neata at Schauspielhaus Wien in 2022, she received the Nestroy Prize in the category Best Female Emerging Director. Her world premiere production of Peter Handke’s “Zwiegespräch” at Vienna’s Burgtheater was invited to the 2023 Berlin Theatertreffen. The critics’ poll in the trade magazine Theater heute voted her to be the best Emerging Director of 2023. Rieke Süßkow has worked at theatres including Berliner Ensemble, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatstheater Mainz and Vienna’s Burgtheater. “ÜBERGEWICHT, unwichtig: UNFORM” is her first production at Staatstheater Nürnberg and was invited to the 2024 Theatertreffen.
