Markus Brück

“Baritone Markus Brück is one of the most distinguished ensemble singers of the Deutsche Oper Berlin”, the Berliner Morgenpost wrote about the artist, who has been a member of the ensemble since 2001 and has held the title of Kammersänger since 2011.

At Deutsche Oper Berlin he celebrated successes as Chorèbe (“Les Troyens”), Nelusco (“Vasco da Gama”), Conte Almaviva (“Le Nozze di Figaro”), Valentin (“Faust”), Marquis de Posa (“Don Carlo”), Marcello (“La Boheme”), Germont (“La Traviata”), with the title role in “Rigoletto”, Wolfram (“Tannhäuser”), Balstrode (“Peter Grimes”), Wotan (“Das Rheingold”) with Sir Simon Rattle, Beckmesser (“Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”), Music Teacher (“Adriadne auf Naxos”), Faninal (“Der Rosenkavalier”), as Escamillo (“Carmen”), Prison Warden Frank (“Die Fledermaus”) and most recently as Alberich in the new production of the “Ring” directed by Stefan Herheim and conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles.

Internationally, too, Markus Brück has become a much sought-after representative in the German, French and Italian repertoire and is represented on all major stages with his large repertoire. In recent years he has made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York in the new production of “Der Rosenkavalier” (Sebastian Weigle & Robert Carsen), at the Zurich Opera House as Macbeth and at the Théatre du Capitole Toulouse as Sebastiano (“Tiefland”). He has also appeared at the Hamburg State Opera (“La Traviata”) and the Bavarian State Opera (“Rigoletto”). Guest appearances in recent seasons have also included his return to the Bregenz Festival as Papageno (“Die Zauberflöte”), Der Kaiser (“Le Rossignol”) and Der Pilot (“L'Hirondelle Inattendue”). Further guest engagements took the artist as Orest (“Elektra”) to the Hamburg State Opera and the Opéra de Paris Bastille. He also made guest appearances at the Semperoper Dresden as Wolfram, at the Liceu in Barcelona and at La Scala in Milan as Don Fernando (“Fidelio”), and at the Volksoper Wien he was engaged in the Austrian premiere of “Sophie’s Choice” as the Doctor and as Prince Ottokar in Marelli’s new production of “Der Freischütz”.

His concert schedule has taken the artist to the Berlin Philharmonie with Stravinsky’s “Requiem Canticles” and Mahler’s “Das klagende Lied” under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, among others. As soloist in Brahms’s “Ein Deutsches Requiem” he celebrated successes with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Donald Runnicles in Glasgow and in Edinburgh as well as with Zubin Mehta at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia under Omer Meir Wellber. He has given guest performances with the RSB Berlin under Marek Janowski, with whom he has had an ongoing collaboration. He has also appeared with the Hamburg Philharmonic, at the Klangbogen Festival in Vienna, with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra with Vladimir Ashkenazy and at the Canterbury Festival, in each case with Britten’s “War Requiem”.
