Verena Regensburger is a theatre director and author. She graduated in theatre studies and language, literature and culture at the LMU Munich with a thesis on the role of the audience as co-actor. She has been working as an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele from the 2014/15 season (Johan Simons) to 2016/17 (Matthias Lilienthal). Her final production “Luegen” has been invited several times to national and international festivals such as NO LIMITS, Berlin and Santiago a Mil, Chile. As a freelance director, she realises projects at city and state theatres such as the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Residenztheater or the Theater Bonn as well as in the independent scene in Germany, Switzerland or as part of her Goethe-Institut residency in Bangalore, India. In 2022/23 she took on a teaching position for theatre practice at the LMU Munich. From 2023 to 2025 she is working as artistic director of Freie Bühne München. For her artistic work to date, she was awarded the Förderpreis für Theater 2024 by the city of Munich.
The director Verena Regensburger is characterised by her strong interest in the scenic exploration of different aspects of communication – her projects engage in dialogue across generations, genres and urban spaces.
