Riki Assor is a theatre director, creator and producer. She has a MFA in Directing from Tel Aviv University. Assor is actively engaged in an independent and fringe theatre, and specialises in creating subversive comedy, particularly dark comedy. With the belief that humour is a radical tool rather than mere entertainment, she finds a way to deal with hard social matters in a more accessible and daring way. Her works are characterised by an in-depth exploration of body and movement. In recent years, she has been deepening her research and creating around exploring the tension between laughter and horror and the aesthetics of atrocity. Her works provoke challenging social questions. Currently, she is in rehearsals for “Holy Cat”, an original work she created together with the actor Wael Hamdun, a multidisciplinary one-person show of a cat conflicting survival vs free will. In addition, she’s right now in the middle of a writing and developing process for a trilogy of plays in collaboration with the artist and director Sujood Kabha, which deals with the effect of war on children, violence and domestication, and which they will direct together in the future.
