Born in Hoyerswerda in 1989, Anne Decker studied German and English/American Studies in Dresden and spent time abroad in Leeds (UK), Venice (Italy) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). She later completed a master’s degree in Performing Public Space at the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg (Netherlands) and specialised in performances in public spaces. Her working principles are: Taking time, listening, recycling.
The legacy of the GDR, coming to terms with the post-reunification period and the East-West communication are important concerns for her, for example in “Aus dem Osten, aus dem Sinn.” (Juliane Hendes) – a documentary-fictional journey through time in an inhabited tower block into the upheaval years of the 1990s (in cooperation with the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg).
In addition to staging new drama, she usually develops her plays and performative formats with different collectives. With the Futurnautinnen collective, she has been active in rural areas across Germany since 2022, where she does both contemporary performance art and structural work for culture. Since 2020, she has been writing and producing the audio walk series “FUTOURISMUS”, which localises the consequences of climate change and explores fictional future scenarios.
“FUTOURISMUS” has already been developed on a site-specific basis for three cities (so far in Hesse and NRW). Her works usually involve the viewers themselves as actors and question their role(s) in the performance game.
