Samuel Finzi

Samuel Finzi performed in his first theatre and film roles while still a student. Very early on, he came into contact with directors who have had a major influence on European theatre and film. He has worked in the theatre with directors such as Benno Besson, Dimiter Gotscheff, Frank Castorf, Jürgen Gosch and Robert Wilson. In film, his collaborations with Michael Glawogger, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Peter Popzlatev, Sönke Wortmann and Til Schweiger have extended his popularity to a wider audience. He has been honoured many times for his brilliant, versatile performances, including with the Advancement Award for Dramatic Arts of the State Capital of Düsseldorf, the Golden Chest Award as best male actor at the International Television Festival Plowdiw, and the Berlin Theatre Prize. In the theatre, he has worked with directors such as Benno Besson, Dimiter Gotscheff, Frank Castorf, Jürgen Gosch and Robert Wilson. In film, his work with Michael Glawogger, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Peter Popzlatev, Sönke Wortmann and Til Schweiger, as well as the title role in the crime series “Flemming” has expanded his popularity to an even wider audience. Alongside his theatre engagements at all of the important German language theatres, Samuel Finzi has performed in many film and television productions. Here, he has captivated audiences in popular successes such as “Das Wunder von Bern” (The Miracle of Bern), or “Kokowääh”, as well as in independent films such as “Die Erfindung der Liebe” (The Invention of Love), “Marie Curie”, “Tod den Hippies!! Es lebe der Punk!” (Death to Hippies!! Long Live Punk!) or “Outside the Box”. The actor shapes his figures as smart, associative character studies, which bear witness to a detailed and intelligent acting strategy. Audiences and the press celebrate his intensive images of human motivation that are almost craving for transformation and his effortless precision when performing. Samuel Finzi was named ‘Actor of the Year 2015’ by the renowned theatre journal ‘Theater heute’. At present, he can be seen on stage at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, at Schauspiel Hannover as well as at the Burgtheater Wien. The latest films shown in cinema 2018 are “Der Hauptmann” and “Klassentreffen”.
