Félix Blume

Félix Blume (b. 1984, France) is a sound artist, field recordist and sound engineer. He utilises sound as a primary medium across sound pieces, video works, actions and installations. His creative process is often collaborative, involving local communities and using public spaces as a context for his experimentations and presentations. Blume’s practice extends beyond conventional listening, inviting audiences to engage with the imperceptible and facilitating encounters with others through sound. He incorporates a diverse array of sounds from different beings and species – from the hum of bees, the steps of tortoises or the chirping of crickets – alongside human dialogues within both natural and urban environments. With a keen interest in myths and their contemporary interpretations, Blume explores the narratives that voices convey beyond mere words.

Blume has been awarded with the Soundscape prize (2018) for his video work “Curupira, Creature of the Woods” and the Pierre Schaeffer prize (2015) for his work “Los Gritos de México” at the Phonurgia Nova Awards. His film “Luces del Desierto” was awarded with First Prize of International Short Films at L’Alternativa CCCB (2021) and Grand Prize Video Art at Côté Court (2021).

Blume’s sound pieces have been aired on radio stations worldwide. He has shown his work in international festivals and venues as Thailand Biennale, Manifesta (Barcelona), Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Centre Pompidou (Paris), CTM Berlin, Domaine de Kerguéhennec (Bignan), Berlinale Forum Expanded, Rotterdam IFFR, LOOP Barcelona, Sonic Acts (Amsterdam), Donaufestival (Krems), Tsonami Arte Sonoro (Valparaíso), Fonoteca Nacional (Mexico City), Ex Teresa (Mexico City), CCCB Barcelona and Laboratorio Arte Alameda (Mexico City), among others.

Works by the artist are held in the collections of Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris), Universidad Autónoma de México, Klankenbos (Neerpelt), Musée Réattu (Arles) and Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), among others.
